I have lived in Kansas City area my whole life.  I went to St. Teresa’s Academy for high school and then to the University of Central Missouri and graduated in December 1984.  I became interested in dietetics when working and participating in a weight loss program during high school.  It was amazing to see the change in people’s confidence as they lost large amounts of weight and became stronger and healthier.  My internship was at the University of Illinois in Indianapolis.

My first job was at Research Medical Center where my interest grew in helping people manage their diabetes.  We had a wing dedicated just to people with diabetes and kidney diseases and had classes in the hospital on how to manage all the things you have to do with diabetes!  That is where I started having the philosophy to try to fit diabetes into people’s lives, rather than forcing them to have diabetes run their lives.  I have worked at The Harmon Diabetes Center (RMC), The Cray Diabetes Center (KUMC), and with a variety of endocrinologists.  Somewhere in those years, I also taught classes in a weight loss research program at the University of Kansas.  They used the same weight loss program to do research on a variety of areas that affect weight loss.

Personally, I have an amazing husband and have been married for 32 years.  We make a good team and no, he does not follow any of my nutrition advice!  We have 3 boys, who have turned in to fantastic men.  (Not sure how that happened!)  My favorite things to do are to hang out with my husband and boys and to travel.  We recently were blessed with a trip to Munich and Rome and had a blast!
