Julie VanTasell is a native of Gladstone, Missouri where she attended Oak Park High School. She then went on to attend University of Missouri in Columbia and completed her Bachelor’s degree in nursing in St. Louis at Jewish Hospital College of Nursing at Washington University. Julie worked in various critical care settings at North Kansas City Hospital for approximately 15 years before becoming a family nurse practitioner in 2013. Julie completed her Masters of Science as a Rural Family Nurse Practitioner from University of Central Missouri in 2013 and is board certified. Initially, Julie worked as a hospitalist on acute rehab at North Kansas City Hospital, assisting to manage patients with acute and chronic illnesses for nearly three years. This experience has given her the knowledge and skills to become the care manager at Barry Pointe Family Care.
Julie will serve as the care manager at Barry Pointe, where she will primarily manage illnesses of chronic disease such as high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, COPD, hyperlipidemia, depression and obesity. In collaboration with the physician, Julie will assist with education, counseling and medication management in these conditions. She is looking forward to making a connection with patients, setting attainable goals, and influencing their health in positive ways.
Outside of work, Julie enjoys spending time with her husband and their collective five children. When there is downtime, Julie loves the outdoors; running, walking, skiing, gardening, golf and live music. She and her family enjoy traveling, be it to the mountains or the beach. Home consists of good cooking, card games, board games and relaxation.
